Brook LaFloe grew up in the Twin Cities of Minnesota and is an artist-educator and entrepreneur with passion for revitalizing culture, and facilitating the growth of local Indigenous economies. Brook was born into the Eagle clan and descends from the Bear clan. Her academic background includes a Tulane University Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience and Anthropology, a Loyola University of Maryland Master’s in Education and 2 Association Montessori International (AMI) diplomas in Assistants to infancy (birth-3 years) and Primary (3-6 years). Brook has 8 years of experience in educational material making and many years in beadwork and sewing. She enjoys fancy dancing at Powwows, being a sister and aunty, and engaging in anything sports-related.

Janice Asinikwe LaFloe - Co-Founder

Janice LaFloe is the founder of Montessori American Indian Childcare Center and the Primary Guide in the Children's House. Her academic background includes a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Macalester College, a Master's degree in Public Policy from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, and an Association Montessori International (AMI) diploma at the Primary (3-6 years) level.  Prior to her Montessori work, she served the American Indian community of St Paul for over a decade through her work at the American Indian Family Center and at St Paul Indian Education Program. Janice completed her Montessori training at the MN Montessori Training Center in St Paul in 2013 as a Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow. She has been a Indigenous educator developing and delivering culturally relevant curriculum for more than 20 years.

Dakota LaFloe - Content Creator

Dakota LaFloe grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota & is a member of our boys Niniijaanis MMIW Basketball team. Dakota was awarded the Outstanding American Indian Male Athlete of the year in 2022 by the Minesota Indian Education Association. He has been a table helper for us for 2 years, is a language learner, and alumni ambassador for the American Indian Magnet School. Dakota will help with the website, beading, sewing, social medias, mobiles, childcare, Feight/shipping, marketing & help at various events.

Tara Tanaǧidaŋ To Wiŋ Perron

Tribal Affilition(s): Lower Sioux and White Earth Nation

Tara Perron (Tanaǧidaŋ To Wiŋ) is a Dakota and Ojibwe mother, artist, author & publisher. She grew up in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Tara studied Dakota language and culture at Metro State University. She is the author of Takoza: Walks With the Blue Moon Girl -her first children's publication in the Dakota & English language. Tara contributes to the important language revitalization work in both the Dakota & Ojibwe language through her other children's publications- Animals Of Khéya Wíta (Dakota Version), Animals Of Nimaamaa-Aki (Ojibwe Version). Tara is inspired by the loving hearts of her sons: she is a creator and has always loved to write. She believes in the healing power of art and storytelling. Salena Thiefoe - Content Creator

Salena Thiefoe is 17 years old and is from Dunseith, ND. Salena just completed her GED and is enrolled to start Turtle Mountain Community College (TMCC) in the fall of 2022. Salena is the second oldest child and the only girl out of six brothers. She is the niece to Brook and Dakota LaFloe. Salena will help with the website, beading, sewing, social medias, mobiles, childcare, Feight/shipping, marketing & help at various events.

Dakota Nimi Giizhig Gunville

Tribal Affilition(s): Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, ND

Dakota Gunville is a young up and comin Turtle Mountain artist and leader. Dakota’s spirit name Nimi Giizhig, translates to Dances in the Sky, named by his grandfather James Greatwalker at the Turtle Mountain holy lodge. Dakota was born into the buffalo clan, and is a member of the bear society and an eagle society leader. Dakota is a thunder-eagle dancer for the people during thirsty dance and powwows. He graduated from Dunseith high school but his education in Anishinaabe culture and traditions surpasses his English school education by far. He is currently serving as the cultural representative for the Turtle Mountain youth council. Dakota states “I grew up in this way of life and I’m grateful to still be able to learn and grow.”

Adrienne Amikogaabawiikwe Benjamin

Adrienne M. Benjamin (She/Her/Hers) is an Anishinaabe multi-faceted artist practicing in multiple disciplines; including but not limited to, Textile Arts, Writing, Design, Acrylic, Woodworking, Watercolor, and Poetry. Her main focus is creating current, socially relevant, and culturally significant artistry that intersects with Anishinaabe values, history, and lifeways. Adrienne is passionate about and vibrantly advocates for social justice and equity initiatives in the arts and education systems. Adrienne is an accomplished arts administrator, having created successful arts based youth initiatives within her tribe; the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. Marshall Asini

Tribal Affilition(s): Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, ND

Marshall Asini is from Gaa Dashii Anishinaabe kag, Dunseith, North Dakota. He was born into the wolf clan and is also part of the bear society. He has been creating traditional art since 2002, including beadwork, sewing/applique, drum making, regalia making and birch bark creations. Marshall enjoys incorporating floral designs, and Anishinaabe teachings related to clan animals and traditional stories. He holds an Associates degree in Ojibwa language and is currently pursuing his bachelor’s in Ojibwa language, culture and history from the Turtle Mountain Tribal College. He is a language apprentice with the Turtle Mountain Language Project. Marshall is active in his community singing and helping with ceremonies and is a proud father.

Buckanaga Social Club (BSC) is an Indigenous women artist collective that strives to produce quality indigenous art, fashion, clothing, accessories, home décor and more. Members of BSC collaborate to execute products and projects, slay at fashion shows and innovate Indigenous fashion. BSC had featured shows at 2019 New York Fashion Week, 2019 Rural Arts and Culture Summit, 2019 Mille Lacs Band Asemaa Gathering, and 2019 Minnesota American Indian Chamber of Commerce annual event. Rochelle Wells 

Tribal Affiliation(s): Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation | Three Affiliated Tribes

Rochelle is a full-time mom-baller-artist-entrepreneur who works and plays out of Bismarck, North Dakota. She grew up on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. Rochelle creates and captures Indigenous movements that inspire original yet meaningful designs. Rochelle enjoys screen-printing and painting t-shirts, and also teaching others how to do so. They hope to create a maker space for young aspiring artists and traveling artists. In addition to being an artist-entrepreneur, Rochelle is a basketball culture influencer and tourney journey champion. Supporting the ball life movement, she hopes to continue to be an influencer for youth and adults using basketball as good medicine.

Charlie Stately

Tribal Affilition(s): Red Lake Nation, MN

Charlie is a long time talented artist and Native business owner of Woodlands Crafts Gift Shop, located in the Lower Gallery of the Minneapolis American Indian Center. Charlie has been in the Native arts industry since 1980, a long-time leader in our industry. Similar to our collective model, Charlie supports and sells a unique selection of handmade gifts by local artists. Woodlands Crafts Gift Shop sells a variety of Native-made items including but not limited to: beadwork of all types, jewelry, Native music & DVD movies, beading supplies and t-shirts. Prior to COVID you could find Charlie set up at Powwows across Minnesota or teaching in his shop at the Indian Center. Charlie has also been slowly making the move to social media, posting earrings here and there on the Woodland Indian Crafts Gift Shop Facebook page. He says he is working on online shops, but would really prefer to go back to his beloved shop.
